The 2nds faced another tough game against a Teign side pushing for promotion. Torbay set up in a 3-5-2 low block to restrict Teign's opportunities to get behind the defence or launch quick counter attacks. The tactic worked well for the first half and Teign were limited to few chances. Unfortunately Torbay were undone by a piece of individual skill from familiar foe Josh Boyne who dribbled past several tackles before flicking the ball past Chewy at the second attempt. However, perhaps against run of play, Torbay equalised a few minutes later with Gylfi Greeves setting Harry Iqbal free with a defence splitting pass from left back, Harry carried the ball from the halfway line to the D before playing the ball across to John Simon to put away a fantastic breakaway goal.
The game remained tied until a few minutes before halftime when a scramble in the D fell fortunately for one of the Teign forwards who managed to squeeze a shot under the keeper and evade the defender on the line via a deflection. The 2-1 halftime score soon became 3-1 when a pass across the back fell to an attacker after an unlucky slip from the defender.
As the game wore on, Teign pressed their advantage and some tired legs in the Torbay side mean that 3 more goals followed however the home team never gave up and matched a very good Teign side for large periods of the game.
Ultimately the 6-1 score flattered Teign and the Torbay side can be proud of the effort and commitment on display from start to finish.
