A tough game for a depleted Men’s 1XI team away against the league champions this week. Torbay started well defensively and kept Ocean City out with some good tackles and goalkeeping from Seb Hales in his second 1XI appearance. City took the lead after a well worked move down the wing was finished off at the back post. Torbay began probing the Ocean defenses but couldn’t find a final pass to create a clear cut chance. City doubled their lead after a deflection from a short corner. Torbay continued defending well and kept City to a few half chances but conceded the third from another short corner just before the break.
After half-time Torbay continued to frustrate City with Seb making some more good saves to keep the scoreline at 3-0. Around 10 minutes into the half City made it 4-0 with an excellent dragflick into the corner and scored their fifth with another pull back soon afterwards. Torbay looked more promising going forwards and had a few shots well saved by the City keeper to deny them a consolation goal. At the back Ollie Barlow made a few goalline saves before City made it 6-0 on the counterattack.
All in all a lot of positives to take from the game with the scoreline perhaps not reflecting the performance. A huge thank you to the Men’s 3XI players that stepped up at the last minute to give us a full team!
